Mission

Our Mission

PEACE builds upon the excellent education Catholic elementary school children receive by supporting the transition from elementary to secondary education. PEACE also supports Catholic elementary education by hiring only Catholic elementary school teachers and paying them significant compensation in order to encourage retention of outstanding teachers in the Catholic schools.  PEACE also provides these services to low-income schools through fundraising support.

Our Objective

PEACE provides comprehensive, age-appropriate curriculum review, instilling confidence in eighth graders while preparing them for the Catholic High School HSPT entrance exam.  PEACE will also provide additional review and skills courses such as writing workshops, study skills, and math review beginning in the winter of 2013 and spring of 2014.  We also offer additional individual or group tutoring.

Method – HSPT Review

PEACE provides an 8-week test preparation course, employing a three-fold approach:

  1. Curriculum Review: The course provides a comprehensive review of all math, reading, and language arts areas typically presented on the HSPT, including general verbal and quantitative skills.
  2. Test Specific Preparation: Students will practice sample questions in the format of the HSPT during each class. The students also become aware of timing conditions simulating the test. A full mock test is given on the last day of the class.
  3. Confidence: The curriculum includes a specific focus on confidence building and encouragement in each class session. Students participate in specific PEACE activities such as goal-setting, self-assessment of strengths and areas for improvement, journaling, and prayer.

Teachers

Teachers of PEACE preparatory classes will be enthusiastic Catholic junior high school teachers, often graduates of exemplary programs such as ACE (Alliance for Catholic Education) and LU-CHOICE (Loyola University). Both ACE and LU-CHOICE are Masters Degree programs which place gifted college graduates in economically disadvantaged Catholic schools. These teachers have a strong commitment to Catholic education and to social justice.

Giving Back

PEACE also hosts classes for low-income Catholic schools at a significantly reduced cost. This is achieved through pro-bono classes and scholarship fundraising by PEACE Educational Services.

OUR INSTRUCTORS

The course will be taught by high-energy, highly skilled Catholic junior high school teachers, many of whom are graduates of University of Notre Dame's Associates in Catholic Education (ACE) program or Loyola University's LU-CHOICE program. Read More about our teachers and our team of professionals.
